SPA Bhopal in collaboration with MP Bamboo Mission is organizing a 5-day workshop "Design with Bamboo" to Promote Bamboo also known as  “Green Gold” as the most sustainable industrial material with a multifold positive impact on the environment.  This workshop is conceptualized to enhance Bamboo Design Skills, and innovation and induce an Entrepreneurial mindset among students and artisans. In this hands-on workshop artists, students, faculty, and industry mentors will work in groups to develop novel designs for bamboo products, furniture, and structure-level interventions. In this workshop industry experts, faculty members, master artisans, students, and artisans will work together on product, furniture, and structure levels to explore innovative ways of designing with Bamboo.  

SPA Bhopal's collaboration with MP Bamboo Mission aims to promote the use of bamboo in everyday products and Building construction.  Bamboo is one of the most promising environment-friendly materials for designers. The unique property of Bamboo as a material and its techniques of translation into hand-crafted products opens a great opportunity for its exploration and adaptation in design. Madhya Pradesh with a rich Bamboo resource has immense potential to research,  design, and promote Bamboo as a sustainable material for product and building design. 

School of Planning and Architecture, Bhopal (SPA Bhopal), with Design and Architecture as distinct disciplines involved directly through academic research and innovation in practice using bamboo as materials for their product and building designs. SPA Bhopal with its focused human resources relating to the idea of design and materiality has incubated a resource center, Bamboo Research and Design Lab, to research, experiment, and design with the material. BR&D Lab allows the students and artisans to work with indigenous and renewable resources and give back pragmatic models of the product and building design to society and the larger developing world. Along with the material explorations, there are entrepreneurship opportunities to develop a brand based on Bamboo for furniture, lifestyle, architecture-oriented products, and Structure.

 We are committed to promoting environmentally conscious and sustainable design practices, emphasizing the need for creativity and practical skills to shape the future of design. Our workshop provides a five-day immersive learning experience focused on working with bamboo. Collaborating with experienced artisans and veterans in bamboo craftsmanship will significantly elevate the standard of our designs. The workshop is curated for beginner to medium level of experience with bamboo.  


Students, Academicians, and Professionals who are keen to learn about bamboo as an eco-friendly design material must participate in this workshop.  The workshop will upscale your knowledge, network, and experience in the domain of bamboo innovation. Participants in this workshop will have the opportunity to develop small and large full-scale design solutions across various categories such as products, furniture, and structures. 


Best projects within each category will be recognized with awards. 



Participation in the workshop "Design with Bamboo" is scheduled on the 11th & 15th of March 2024 and requires registration.
